[ jun 29 , 2006 ]

The Ivano-Frankivsk Airport will be considered for a possibility to open new international flights in a study carried out under the RAIRDev project, the Western Information Corporation reported on Tuesday in the wake of the kick-off meeting of the project’s partners past week in Volos, Greece. Ivano-Frankivsk-based Carpathian Tourist Board represented Ukraine at the meeting.

RAIRDev, which stands for Regional Airports Interaction for Regional Development, is a project under the EU INTERREG III B CADSES Neighborhood Program. Whereas CADSES (Central, Adriatic, Danubian and South-Eastern European Space) embraces 18 countries, of which half are non-EU-member states including six Ukrainian oblasts bordering the EU, the RAIRDev partners are eight organizations from six EU member states, including Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland, and Slovakia, and two EU neighbors: Serbia and Ukraine.

According to the CADSES web site, the RAIRDev project, a total budget of over €1.86 million, “focuses on the strengthening of integrated and sustainable regional development based on the creation of a flexible air transport system provided by a cooperation network between regional airports.”

The next meeting of the partners will take place in Germany in September 2006.
