Kremenets Approves Economic Development Strategy

[ dec 17 , 2007 ]

Kremenets, Ternopil Oblast, became today the 41st city that has officially approved its strategy drafted with assistance from the USAID LED project.

According to the Economic Development Strategic Plan, the town of about 20,000 residents approximately 70 km to the north of Ternopil will become in the future a "historical and architectural conservation area and the spiritual center of the Ternopil region." In addition, it will be a developed sports and tourism center, "favorable for enterprise development and investment attraction," reads the Strategic Vision, which is part of the document.

For the strategic vision to come true, the plan focuses on three so-called critical issues of development: tourism, small to medium enterprise, and communal infrastructure.

The Expert Committee in Kremenets worked on the Strategic Plan for nearly seven months, from May to December 2007. As a "raion significance" city, Kremenets had certain difficulties in collecting city-specific statistics. This resulted in a planning period somewhat longer than in most other LED project's partner cities.
