On Oct. 24 and 25, 2007, the third cycle of the USAID LED project's training course in foreign direct investment (FDI) wound up in certification exams held in Kyiv.
Of those 27 who enrolled and began training on June 6, 2007, 22 made it to the rigorous examinations, and 19 passed.
The examinations included a multiple-choice test and a presentation, the latter evaluated for both the quality of slide show and the presentation skills of examinee. Those who fail at the test but succeed at the presentation, and vice versa, are allowed to be reexamined with the next cycle group. This was the case at this examination, which was joined by two trainees from previous cycles, who passed.
Like in the first two cycles, the third group of trainees mainly comprised officers of local and regional governments (this time even including one mayor) and independent consultants representing various Ukrainian regions. After the third cycle's graduation ceremony on Nov. 8, 2007, the total number of Ukrainian certified FDI professionals released under this unique program will reach 63.
The USAID LED project launched the program in March 2006. It was the first step made in Ukraine toward training of FDI professionals for local governments and public administration agencies. The program, which includes four seminars and a study tour to the Czech Republic, was developed, and is delivered, by Ukrainian, Czech, Scottish, and US LED experts.
Since its second cycle, the program has been issuing a joint certificate with the Ukrainian Center for Foreign Investment Promotion (InvestUkraine), proving the professional level of graduates to the center's standards and fostering partnership between the LED project and InvestUkraine.
