Koryukivka Adopts Strategic Plan

[ sep 18 , 2007 ]

Today the Koryukivka City Rada unanimously voted to adopt a strategy for economic development of this Chernihiv Oblast city. It also set up an Implementation Management Committee to monitor, guide and coordinate implementation of the strategy.

LED Advisor Ihor Parasyuk and independent consultant Valeriy Kokot presented the Economic Development Strategic Plan drafted by an Expert Committee (EC) with assistance from the USAID Local Economic Development project to Rada members. The 40-minute presentation was followed by a brief discussion, which was "very favorable," according to Mr. Parasyuk.

Earlier today, the final draft of the plan was presented at a joint meeting of EC and two standing commissions of the City Rada: financial-budgetary and economic policy. The meeting, which was the fifth and the last for EC, decided to introduce the plan to the Rada.

Koryukivka, a town of just above 14,000 residents, is the fourth municipality in the Chernihiv Oblast, and 28th in Ukraine, where the LED project helped to work out a strategy. The Koryukivka Strategic Plan focuses on three so-called critical issues: SME and labor force development, environment protection, and infrastructure development.
